The Climate Crisis Font. A typeface visualizing and concretizing climate change and its impact. Helsingin Sanomat is using the font covering climate issues and is now releasing it for free download to all media outlets, organizations and individuals sharing the concern for our climate.
The font’s weight varies according to the National Snow and Ice Data Center’s (NSIDC) data from 1979 to 2019 and continues with IPCC’s projection³ until 2050. In other words, every headline, comment or article written with it will exemplify the real impact of climate change to the arctic sea ice extent.
With the font Helsingin Sanomat wants to remind people that even though the world is in disarray at the moment, the climate crisis should not be forgotten. The typeface aims to lay the often hard-to-grasp climate change for more acute experience – to initiate more immediate action. Helsingin Sanomat wishes to see other outlets make use of the font and that is why it can be downloaded for free.
